I met Anita Roddick in the late 1980s; she was in San Francisco for some meetings and some mutual acquaintance had referred her to me. I remember spending a couple of hours in the presence of a woman so dynamic and engaged she practically thrummed. I was terrifically impressed, and very sorry that whatever writing project she'd had in mind never materialized. And I'm sad that she's left us so soon.

One of my favorite Roddick quotes: "If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito."
