Quelle change! In one week, the world -- albeit flailing through a financial crisis -- has gone from a state of a cancerous metastasis propagated by the devastatingly destructive policies of the Bush Administration to a hopeful metamorphosis through the election of one man, Barack Obama, who seems to be the most rational person on earth.
It seems reasonable that a person born of a white mother and a black father would realize the nonsensical nature of racism. Obama has already made an entire nation realize that race is not the issue: hatred and intolerance are the root problems, leading to vast inequalities of everything (from fresh air to a decent education) among our populace.
Can I say that technology has always been race-blind? Technology can benefit everyone, and although we need more diversity in our tech workforce, now is the time to train and recruit computer scientists from the ghettos, and from the industrial wastelands like Detroit and Cincinnati, and become once again a nation based on invention and metamorphosis.
P.S. My recommendations for the Obama cabinet include Larry Lessig as head of the FCC; Brewster Kahle as director of the Library of Congress; and Steve Beck as director of a new commission on the Arts and Technology. I've heard that Vint Cerf is up for appointment as CTO, whatever that job entails, and that sounds right to me.
